Chogokin GoLion (Voltron) Revival: ¥14,850, March 2027

Bandai Spirits is reissuing the standard-size Chogokin “Hyakujuoh GoLion”, the 1981 Popy die-cast toy of the robot Americans know as Voltron, at ¥14,850 (about $100). Retail pre-orders opened August 27, 2026 JST, and it ships in March 2027 as a 45th-anniversary item for the series.

For overseas buyers the key detail is the name: this is sold as GoLion, not Voltron, and it is a general-retail release rather than a Tamashii Web Shop exclusive. That means HLJ, AmiAmi and the other Japanese exporters can take pre-orders now, and Bandai lists the USA among its sales regions, so a Tamashii Nations Store US or Premium Bandai USA listing is likely to follow.

What you get

This is the small “standard” Chogokin, not the Soul of Chogokin GX-71. Bandai gives the height as about 150 mm, with the body and both legs in die-cast metal and the rest in ABS. The set includes the robot, the Ten Kings Sword (Juoken) and the Space Cutter shield, both finished in silver plating to match chrome parts across the five lions.

The selling point is the “Four Lion Attack” gimmick from the show: the lion heads on both hands and both feet fire as spring-loaded missiles. Bandai points out that this feature is unique to the standard Chogokin and does not exist on the DX-size versions. The two wings on the back rotate at the joint so you can change their spread.

Bandai describes the toy as reproducing the texture and proportions of the 1981 original, so expect a chunky retro shelf piece rather than a modern articulated figure. The five lions are the usual arrangement: Black Lion for head and torso, Green and Red for the arms, Yellow and Blue for the legs. Bandai rates it for ages 15 and up.

GoLion vs. Voltron: what the name means for your search

As most US readers know, Voltron was cut together from GoLion footage for American television, and the lion robot has kept the Voltron name in the West ever since. Bandai Spirits uses the Japanese title on packaging and product pages, so searching Japanese shops for “Voltron” may return nothing; search “GoLion” or “Golion” instead. Bandai’s own page acknowledges the overlap, noting the robot is popular overseas as Voltron.

If you want a larger, more articulated take, Bandai’s related listings point to the Soul of Chogokin GX-71 GoLion and the GX-71SP “GoLion/Voltron Chogokin 50th Ver.”, both of which are earlier releases. The new standard Chogokin is the cheaper, smaller option, and the only one with the firing lion heads.
