Hasegawa announced two new 1/72 Macross plastic kits on August 28: a newly tooled YF-21 Battroid from Macross Plus at ¥5,720 (about $39), shipping in Japan around November 26, and a VF-0A Gerwalk with Ghost Booster from Macross Zero at ¥7,150 (about $48), around November 18. Both are general-retail kits, and HobbyLink Japan already lists them for pre-order at its tax-free price with November dates. No lottery, no Japan-only store, no proxy needed.

YF-21 Battroid (Macross Plus)

This is Guld Goa Bowman’s YF-21 from the OVA, in Battroid form, and it is Hasegawa’s first 1/72 YF-21 in that mode as far as we can tell; the company’s earlier YF-21 kits were fighter-mode releases. Hasegawa’s product page files it as new tooling, and HLJ’s code is HSGM36.

The kit is snap-fit with no glue required, and the joints use polycaps so the finished Battroid can be posed. As usual with Hasegawa kits, panel lining and a matte coat make a big difference.

What is in the box:

  • Two gun pods and the parts to mount the waist armor
  • Hands for both sides: gun-pod grip, Pinpoint Barrier Punch grip, closed fist, and open palm
  • Two clear-green Pinpoint Barrier Punch effect parts
  • Optional FAST Pack armor for the arms and waist

VF-0A Gerwalk with Ghost Booster (Macross Zero)

The second kit is Shin Kudo’s VF-0A from Macross Zero, fixed in Gerwalk mode and carrying the Ghost Booster. Hasegawa’s item number is 65913 (HLJ code HSG65913), and the A-type head parts are included as standard.

Two things to know before ordering. First, this is not a convertible kit: the parts breakdown does not allow building a standard Gerwalk without the booster. Second, the booster makes the model tail-heavy, so Hasegawa includes its Macross display stand and intends the kit to be shown hovering. Parts come in four colors: light gray, dark gray, clear, and blue-gray for the stand.

Prices, dates, and where they stand

Kit Scale Hasegawa price (tax-in) HLJ price (tax-free) JP release
YF-21 Battroid “Macross Plus” 1/72 ¥5,720 (about $39) ¥4,420 (about $30) around Nov 26, 2026
VF-0A Gerwalk w/Ghost “Macross Zero” 1/72 ¥7,150 (about $48) ¥5,525 (about $37) around Nov 18, 2026

HLJ’s prices are the tax-free list price minus the shop’s usual discount, and you are not charged until the kit reaches HLJ’s warehouse. The catch is cancellation: HLJ’s YF-21 listing shows a cancellation cutoff of September 13, 2026, and the VF-0A listing already marks orders as non-cancellable, so treat a reservation as a commitment. “Around November 26” is Hasegawa’s wording; HLJ shows November 22 for the YF-21 and November 15 for the VF-0A, and kit dates in Japan slip by a week or two fairly often.

Why this matters for overseas buyers

Hasegawa kits are the cheapest way into Macross Valkyries. Bandai’s DX Chogokin and Origin of Valkyrie lines, like the VF-1S Roy Focker Super Pack set at ¥19,800, are finished transforming toys that often sell out at pre-order. A Hasegawa 1/72 kit is a fixed-mode model at a fraction of the price that tends to stay in stock and get rerun. The trade-off is that you build it and, ideally, paint it.

Both are standard-size kit boxes, which matters now that Japan Post’s cheaper options to the US are back; see our HLJ vs AmiAmi vs Good Smile guide for how to combine orders in HLJ’s Private Warehouse. A two-kit order will also draw import duty under the current US rules, so budget for that.

If you have been waiting for a Battroid YF-21 rather than a Fighter, this is the one to get. The VF-0A is more of a completist piece for people who already have Hasegawa’s other VF-0 kits. Both kits will appear on the Macross Plus and Macross Zero hubs as listings update.

Most Japanese shops ship worldwide by EMS/DHL (7–14 days). Duties and import taxes are charged on delivery in most countries — check your local threshold before ordering.
