Hasegawa 1/72 Dragonar-1 Kit Ships December 25 at ¥8,580

Hasegawa announced a newly tooled 1/72 plastic kit of the XD-01 Dragonar-1 from Metal Armor Dragonar on August 28, priced at ¥8,580 (about $58) and shipping in Japan around December 25, 2026. It is a general-retail kit in Hasegawa’s Creator Works series (item No. CW29), and HobbyLink Japan already lists it for pre-order at ¥6,630 (about $45) with a December 24 date. For overseas buyers that means no lottery, no Japan-only store, and no proxy: it is an ordinary hobby-shop kit.

What the kit is

This is the D-1, the lead unit of the Sunrise TV series, and Hasegawa says the kit follows Kunio Okawara’s original design sheets rather than a later redesign. As with Hasegawa’s 1/72 Macross kits announced the same day, it is a fixed-design kit aimed at builders, not a transforming toy.

Assembly is snap-fit with no glue required, and the joints use polycaps so the finished model can be posed. The parts come molded in eight colors (white, red, blue, yellow, gray, black, clear yellow and clear green), with the shin stripes handled by part color, so a straight build already looks close to the anime colors before any paint. The head camera comes as either a clear-yellow or an opaque yellow part, and decals cover the fine markings.

Weapons and articulation

Hasegawa’s parts list covers the D-1’s standard loadout:

• 75mm hand-railgun LPS9 type (one)
• Laser swords (two), which can be joined end to end
• Assault knives (two)
• Hybrid shield (one)
• Throwing bombs (two)
• Five hand types, including gripping and open hands with articulated fingers

On articulation, the shoulder joints swing forward far enough for a two-handed railgun grip, the ankles slide relative to the shins for wider stances, and the back nozzle and its cover open and close.

Price, date, and where it stands

HLJ’s figure is the tax-free list price of ¥7,800 minus the shop’s discount. Note the cancellation cutoff: HLJ’s listing shows October 8, 2026 JST (October 7 in US time zones), so treat a reservation kept past that as a commitment. “Around December 25” is Hasegawa’s wording, and kit dates in Japan slip by a week or two fairly often, so an early January arrival is realistic.

One discrepancy to know about: HLJ’s listing carries its generic “requires cement and painting, Skill Level 3” text, while Hasegawa’s own product page says assembly needs no adhesive. We are going with the maker’s spec.

Why this matters for overseas buyers

A ¥8,580 injection kit sold through general retail is the easy way in for a series whose merchandise rarely turns up at export shops. It is the same 1/72 scale as the YF-21 Battroid and VF-0A Gerwalk kits Hasegawa announced alongside it, if you want a shelf of 1/72 Sunrise and Studio Nue mecha together.

This is also a more involved build than Bandai’s snap kits such as the 30MF Rathalos and Arkveld sets. Hasegawa kits reward panel lining and a matte coat, and the decal sheet takes an evening on its own.
