Gundam Base Osaka Opens February 2027 at Umeda's Lucua

Bandai Spirits announced today, September 2, that THE GUNDAM BASE OSAKA will open in February 2027 on the 11th floor of Lucua, the shopping complex attached to JR Osaka Station in Umeda — the official Gundam store chain’s first location in Osaka. If you are penciling in a Japan trip for 2027, this puts a full-scale official gunpla store at one of the country’s busiest rail hubs, in a city most visitors pass through anyway.

What was announced

The store will run about 371 tsubo — roughly 13,200 square feet — which Bandai Spirits bills as one of the largest sales floors of its kind in western Japan. Stock covers Gundam plastic models plus apparel, stationery, general goods, and snacks, and the company says it plans special exhibits and build-experience content available only at this location, under a “buy, see, make” concept. An exact opening date has not been posted; details are promised on the official site later.

Why this matters for a Japan trip

Until now the Gundam Base network in Japan meant Tokyo, Fukuoka, New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido, a Shizuoka store, and smaller satellite shops, including a satellite counter in Kyoto’s Aeon Mall — but no full-scale store anywhere in Kansai, and nothing in Osaka. And the Tokyo flagship’s neighborhood just lost its biggest draw: the life-size Unicorn Gundam statue in Odaiba ended its run on August 31, sent off with a commemorative 1/48 kit.

The location is hard to beat. Umeda is Osaka’s main station district — you will likely pass through it between the airport, the Shinkansen at Shin-Osaka one JR stop away, and hotels — so this works as a low-effort stop rather than a dedicated detour, the way our Akihabara half-day figure route treats Tokyo’s electric town. Whether Osaka gets its own exclusive items has not been announced; we will follow up when Bandai Spirits posts specifics.

One planning note: February 2027 is a target, not a confirmed date. If a Gundam Base visit is the point of the trip, wait for the official opening date before booking.
