Shibuya for Anime and Game Fans: PARCO 6F to Gundam Base

Shibuya PARCO's 6F stacks Nintendo TOKYO, Pokémon Center, Capcom, JUMP and JoJo shops; Gundam Base Shibuya joins on 5F in Nov 2026. Hours, access, route.

Shibuya is where the official stores are. One floor of Shibuya PARCO, the 6F “CYBERSPACE SHIBUYA,” holds Nintendo TOKYO, Pokémon Center Shibuya, CAPCOM STORE TOKYO, JUMP SHOP, SEGA STORE TOKYO, THE★JOJO WORLD and a Godzilla Store, and in November 2026 THE GUNDAM BASE SHIBUYA opens one floor down on 5F. For an overseas visitor that changes the Tokyo shopping math: Akihabara and Nakano are still the places for figures and secondhand stock, but Shibuya is now the one stop for the official stores of Nintendo, Pokémon, Capcom and Shueisha’s JUMP SHOP and, from November, Bandai Spirits, all in one building about five minutes from the station.

Access, a route with clock times, hours and payment rules below all come from each shop’s own page as of September 10, 2026. If your trip is in November or later, read the tax-free section: Japan switches to an airport-refund system on November 1, 2026, and the Gundam Base opens under that regime.

Why Shibuya now

PARCO’s current building opened on November 22, 2019 (the original store dates to 1973), and the two upper retail floors were built around this audience. PARCO’s own floor guide labels 6F “CYBERSPACE SHIBUYA” (game, anime, character goods) and 5F “CHAOS CULTURE GEEK / PARCO OUTDOOR PARK” (toys, outdoor goods, fashion). The 6F tenant list as of this week is nine shops, seven of them anime, game or character stores.

Nintendo TOKYO is Nintendo’s first directly run official store in Japan, and its FAQ states that Nintendo original goods are sold in person only at the Nintendo TOKYO/OSAKA/KYOTO/FUKUOKA stores, with some items also on the online Nintendo Store. That is the reason to come: by Nintendo’s own statement, the original goods are sold in person only at those four stores.

The Gundam Base announcement of September 9, 2026 gives only the essentials: THE GUNDAM BASE SHIBUYA, Shibuya PARCO 5F, planned by BANDAI SPIRITS, opening planned for November 2026, details to follow. The announcement describes it as an official Gundam goods facility (公式ガンダムグッズ総合施設) and says nothing about Gunpla, floor size or hours, so do not assume a kit-first store like Gundam Base Tokyo in Odaiba until the lineup is published. PARCO’s 5F list did not show it yet when we checked.

Getting to Shibuya

Exits. JR Shibuya Station has Central, Hachiko, South and New South gates. The Hachiko gate is staffed from the first to the last train, and it is the side that Mandarake, Tower Records and Hands all quote in their directions. Nintendo TOKYO and Pokémon Center both give PARCO as a five-minute walk from Shibuya Station, which serves the JR Yamanote and Saikyo lines, Tokyu, Keio Inokashira and the Tokyo Metro Ginza, Hanzomon and Fukutoshin lines. JR’s page confirms coin lockers exist but lists no sizes or prices; do not plan the day around finding a suitcase-size one.

From Haneda. The airport’s access page puts Shibuya at about 45 minutes by train via the Keikyu Line or Tokyo Monorail (platforms on B1F) with a change on the way; Shinagawa is about 15 minutes. Rail fares are not published as a single figure, so check the Keikyu or JR East site. The Airport Limousine bus is the no-transfer option: ¥1,300 (about $9) per adult, ¥650 for children, no reservations; buy a ticket at the Haneda machines (cash, credit card or transit IC card) or pay at the fare box on boarding (cash or IC card), and you ride only if seats are free. It stops at Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel, Shibuya Station (Shibuya Fukuras) and Shibuya Excel Hotel Tokyu (Mark City); the operator does not state a journey time in its static page.

From Narita. The Narita Express (N’EX) stops at Shibuya. JR East’s English fare table lists Narita Airport to Shinagawa, Shibuya or Shinjuku at ¥3,330 (about $22) in an Ordinary Car and ¥4,100 (about $27) in a Green Car, all seats reserved; the fastest run to Tokyo Station is 53 minutes, and Shibuya is two stops beyond it (Shinagawa, then Shibuya); JR East publishes no Shibuya time on the pages we could read. The 12-car train splits at Tokyo Station and only the Shinjuku-bound half continues to Shibuya, so check that your car is in the Shinjuku section. Flying in and out of Narita, the N’EX TOKYO Round Trip Ticket is ¥5,200 (about $35) for a round trip within 14 days. Terminal 1 uses Narita Airport Terminal 1 Station; Terminals 2 and 3 share Narita Airport Terminal 2·3 Station, a 5-minute walk from Terminal 2 and 10 from Terminal 3 per the airport. The Limousine bus from Narita to the same Shibuya stops is ¥3,600 (about $24) per adult, ¥1,800 for children, booked online by card.

From Tokyo Station or Shinjuku. Both are on the JR Yamanote Line with Shibuya, so it is one ride with no transfer. We could not confirm the Yamanote fare or ride time from an official page, so check the JR East app before you go.

Shibuya PARCO 6F at a glance

PARCO’s published hours: shops 11:00–21:00, restaurants 11:30–23:00, but the 6F shops open at 10:00 and the 7F restaurant floor at 11:00. Closing days are irregular and year-end hours differ, so check the PARCO site the week you go. Address: 15-1 Udagawa-cho, Shibuya-ku.

The ninth tenant, YEN TOWN MARKET, is apparel. Individual shops may change hours or close temporarily; the Pokémon Center page carries that warning on its hours line.

Weekend rule at Nintendo TOKYO. For the time being, on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays and other days it expects crowds, Nintendo TOKYO admits customers by numbered ticket (整理券): before opening the tickets are handed out on PARCO’s 1F, after opening at the 6F outside-staircase entrance by the Mario statue. One ticket per person, entry free. Nintendo does not say when distribution starts or whether tickets are limited, so on a weekend be at PARCO before 10:00, not at it. The page names no weekday rule, but “other days it expects crowds” leaves room for one.

Pokémon Center notices. The Shibuya store runs advance lotteries for specific Pokémon TCG releases (the current notice covers products on sale September 16, 2026); it is not a general entry restriction, but if a TCG set is your goal, read the store’s notice list before you fly.

The route, hour by hour

Opening times set the order: the 6F shops open at 10:00, Animate and Tower at 11:00, Mandarake at 12:00. None of these stores publishes shop-to-shop walking times, so the clock times below follow the hours, not a stopwatch. Everything except Tower Records is in Udagawa-cho.

09:45 — Shibuya PARCO, 1F. On a weekend, this is where the Nintendo TOKYO tickets are given out before opening. On a weekday, go straight up.

10:00 — 6F, Nintendo TOKYO first. Its original goods are store-only, so do it first. Nintendo’s FAQ says the game software in its Japanese stores is for the Japanese market; check region and language before buying a game rather than a plush.

10:45 — 6F, the rest of the floor. Pokémon Center and Capcom are the two goods shops PARCO lists as tax-free; keep those purchases separate so the paperwork happens at their registers. THE★JOJO WORLD has attractions and a menu as well as goods, so treat it as a 30-minute stop rather than a shelf.

12:00 — 5F. THE DORAEMON STORE, POP MART (art toys, tax-free), the Sylvanian Families Premium store, RADIO EVA STORE and TORCH TORCH, plus the service counter for overseas shipping and hotel delivery. From November 2026 this is also the Gundam Base floor; its hours are not published, and PARCO’s general shop line is 11:00–21:00.

12:30 — Lunch on 7F. PARCO’s restaurant floor runs 11:00–23:00; THE GUEST CAFE on 6F is the alternative if a collaboration menu is running.

13:30 — Shibuya BEAM: Mandarake (B2F) and Animate (3F). Same building, 31-2 Udagawa-cho, five minutes from the Hachiko exit per Mandarake. Animate’s directions: straight along Inokashira-dori, past the Udagawa police box, and BEAM is just before Hands. Mandarake is 12:00–20:00 every day; Animate is 11:00–21:00 on weekdays and 11:00–20:00 on weekends and holidays, Gratte last order 19:30.

15:00 — Hands Shibuya (12-18 Udagawa-cho), 6B. Eight minutes from the Hachiko exit per Hands, just beyond BEAM. Open 10:00–21:00. Go for the capsule-toy zone on 6B (“Gacha World” plus an event space); 6A is craft supplies such as UV resin and clay. Hands Shibuya has no hobby or model-kit floor on its floor guide, so do not budget it as a figure stop.

16:00 — Tower Records Shibuya (1-22-14 Jinnan). From the Hachiko exit, cross the Scramble Crossing and follow Koen-dori, about five minutes and 458 m per Tower. Open 11:00–22:00, irregular closures, about 800,000 items in stock by its own count. The store page has no floor guide, so ask at the counter for anime CDs and Blu-rays rather than trusting a floor number from an older guide.

17:00 — SHIBUYA TSUTAYA (21-6 Udagawa-cho). At the Scramble Crossing itself. IP Shoten on 6F is open 10:00–21:00 and the Pokémon Card Lounge on 5F until 22:30, so this is the natural last stop. The building is cashless, and TSUTAYA warns it may limit entry when crowded.

If you have a second day, the Akihabara half-day route covers the figure side of Tokyo that Shibuya does not.

The shops beyond PARCO

Mandarake Shibuya (BEAM B2F) lists toys, dolls, cards, discs, vintage comics, shonen and shojo comics and doujinshi on its floor guide, with buyback until 19:30. Animate Shibuya (BEAM 3F) is a single floor with tax-free handling and cards including Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Diners, UnionPay and Discover; no closing days are listed. Ikebukuro’s Animate is the bigger store; Shibuya is the convenient one.

SHIBUYA TSUTAYA reopened on April 25, 2024 around “IP content.” 6F IP Shoten sells comics, figures and goods across a pop-up area, an “IP100” area and a gallery, with more than half the stock planned as TSUTAYA-original limited items per the 2024 press release. The 5F Pokémon Card Lounge costs from ¥1,650 (about $11) per person for 60 minutes, with a free-entry goods area; the 3F Share Lounge displays life-size and high-end figures from Japanese makers. When we checked, a Dorohedoro Season 2 pop-up was scheduled from September 18, 2026 and a Square Enix goods corner (Fullmetal Alchemist, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy) from October 1. IC-card top-up machines are on B2F, 2F and 6F, because the building takes no cash.

There is no Yellow Submarine in Shibuya; its store list has no Shibuya branch.

Practical notes

Tax-free at PARCO is per shop, and only some shops. PARCO has no tax-free counter; each shop runs its own procedure, and restaurants and services are excluded. On 6F the listed shops are CAPCOM STORE TOKYO, THE GUEST CAFE BY PARCO and Pokémon Center Shibuya; on 5F they include POP MART and TORCH TORCH. Nintendo TOKYO, JUMP SHOP, SEGA STORE TOKYO, THE★JOJO WORLD and the Godzilla Store are not on PARCO’s list and their pages carry no tax-free mark, so budget those at the tax-included price unless the shop says otherwise.

From November 1, 2026 the system changes. Per the Japan Tourism Agency, purchases from that date are paid at the tax-included price and the consumption tax is refunded after customs confirms at departure that the goods are leaving Japan. The rules: ¥5,000 (about $33, before tax) or more at the same shop on the same day; passport at the tax-free kiosk at the airport within 90 days of purchase; every tax-free item with you at the kiosk, so do it before checking bags; the refund comes from the shop or its refund operator, not customs; and consumables such as snacks or cosmetics used in Japan get no refund. Narita and Haneda also allow the customs step online through Visit Japan Web. Until October 31, 2026 the shops still deduct the tax at the register. PARCO’s tax-free page had no post-November text when we checked, so how each tenant will pay refunds is not yet published.

Paying. PARCO accepts major cards, contactless card payments up to ¥15,000 (about $100) per transaction, Suica/PASMO and the other transit IC cards, and QR payments including PayPay, Alipay+ and WeChat Pay. It offers to charge Visa and Mastercard in your home currency (USD, GBP, CAD and AUD are listed); that is dynamic currency conversion, so choose yen. A Seven Bank ATM on B1F takes overseas cards. SHIBUYA TSUTAYA takes no cash at all; Mandarake’s page does not list payment methods, so carry some cash for the secondhand floor.

Shipping and luggage. PARCO’s 5F service counter offers overseas shipping and same-day hotel delivery (some regions and hotels excluded), the practical answer for a big haul. Anything you carry home is an import; our duty and tax guide covers what the US, UK, Canada and Australia charge at the border.

Wi-Fi, hours, photos. PARCO’s free Wi-Fi (SSID “atPARCO”) allows three 60-minute sessions a day. Closing days are irregular, and Nintendo TOKYO’s FAQ says it follows PARCO’s business days, so if PARCO is closed, so is Nintendo TOKYO; the other tenants do not say, but they are in the same building. Neither Nintendo TOKYO’s page nor Pokémon Center Shibuya’s publishes a photography rule, so we will not state one; look for signs and ask staff. If a numbered-ticket line is running, the ticket is per person, so everyone in your group needs one.

Goods bought in Shibuya are imports when you get home. Use PARCO's 5F service counter or Japan Post EMS for boxed items, keep the receipts, and from November 1, 2026 remember that the tax refund happens at the airport kiosk before you check your bags.
